Trafuco acquired by Altrea

In December 2021, Altrea Logistics Group acquired Trafuco, an expert in offering transport solutions for chemical products with a strong position in the Port of Antwerp.

Marc Van den Broeck, the founder of Trafuco, had welcomed Down2Earth Capital as co-shareholder in the Trafuco Group in 2015 to reinforce the existing growth strategy. This resulted amongst other initiatives in six further acquisitions of complementary transport companies. This reinforced Trafuco’s position as reference partner with unrivaled know-how in the transport of dangerous liquid chemicals, waste and oils, both on road and on water through its own fleet of 4 barges.

When Altrea contacted Trafuco about a potential combination of both groups, the shareholders and the management team both appreciated the fact that Altrea is a family-owned group which shared the entrepreneurial culture of Trafuco. The combination of Trafuco and Altrea creates additional scale and prepares the group for the future and is a major step in Altrea’s strategic ambition to develop its activities in the chemical sector.

Kumulus Partners had been working closely with the shareholders of Trafuco over the past years and acted as sole financial adviser in setting up the deal structure and negotiating the transaction.
